A New Holy Cross Cardinal
“I am glad to inform you that Rt. Rev. Archbishop Patrick D'Rozario, CSC, Archbishop
of Dhaka, has been made a cardinal by Pope Francis. The formal announcement came
today during the angelus in Vatican.
We congratulate the Archbishop Patrick on his elevation as a cardinal and assure him of our prayers.”
These are the words of Rev James Cruze, CSC, Provincial superior of the Sacred Heart Province of Priests in Bangladesh as he sent out the good news in an e-mail on October 9th, 2016. The nomination of Archbishop D’Rozario as cardinal of the Church marks the second such nomination among the ranks of Holy Cross bishops. The entire Congregation rejoices in this choice made by Pope Francis. It is a tremendous honor for the archbishop and for the Congregation.
Ordained priest in 1972, the Rev. D’Rozario was made bishop of Rajshahi in 1990, then bishop of Chittagong and in 2011 became the Archbishop of Dhaka succeeding the late Archbishop Paulinus Costa.
In recognition of his leadership and contribution to the Church in Bangladesh, the Congregation of Holy Cross is grateful and rejoices in our Holy Father’s naming of Archbishop D’Rozario to the highest honor of the Catholic hierarchy.
